TRUMPET project joined the EU Standardisation Booster

In the final quarted of 2024, the TRUMPET project was selected for support by the EU Standardisation Booster (HS Booster), a European Commission initiative that provides guidance on engaging with with industry standards.

The TRUMPET project partners aim to promote the adoption of their metrics and tools across industry and regulatory frameworks, ensuring practical impact and long-term sustainability. The HS Booster service proved particularly valuable by helping partners understand the landscape of relevant Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), explore how to contribute to standards related to privacy metrics in federated learning, and identify gaps where new standards are needed.

Over the course of three months, the project team held four meetings with a HS Booster consultant who was a senior advisor in digital media standards, technology policy, and strategy, and a Senior Member of the IEEE.

During the meetings, the consultant guided the consortium through key aspects of standardisation, including basic concepts, terminology, and the link between standards and regulations. The partners learned how to identify relevant standards, select appropriate standardisation types, and navigate the landscape in their technical field. Practical advice was provided on engaging with Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), from observer roles to active participation. The consultant also explained how to propose new standardisation items and influence ongoing standardisation processes.

As a result of the service, the consortium is now assessing the most relevant standardisation organizations and their committees—particularly within ISO and CEN/CENELEC—while exploring how different partners can engage with them and meet
